Friday, October 1st marked the last time a season opener puck was dropped at the Jack Gatecliff Arena. Mayor Walter Sendzik, accompanied by Council Members Dawn Dodge and Greg Miller, joined Falcons President Jim McConnell at centre ice for the ceremonial drop. The 83 year old “Jack” , formerly known as Garden City Arena, will be closed at the end of the season and the St Catharines Rankin Construction Junior B Falcons will be moving across town to the Seymour Hannah rink for the 2022-23 season.
Although the original season opener was scheduled for Sept 24th, the opposing Caledonia Corvairs had to forfeit the game due to non-compliance of player Covid restrictions, so the home opener was the following week versus the Hamilton Kilty B’s. It seems fitting that the last game that will be played at the Jack on December 17th will also be against Hamilton.
Article has been edited to note that the Falcons will be staying in the Jack for the entire 2021-22 season as the CSG arena will not be ready in time for Brock to move in January.
