Dewar scores 2 as Falcons take 3-2 series lead

Treyson Dewar scored 2 goals as the Falcons (11-3) moved one win away from the conference title with a 4-1 win over the Meteors (10-5) in front of 1057 spectators at the Seymour Hannah R.C.

Falcons netminder Hayden Jeffery (W, 11-3) stopped 38 of 39 shots, while John Lloyd (L, 10-5) made 17 saves for the Meteors.

The Falcons jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the game’s first five minutes on goals 66 seconds apart from team scoring leader Cameron Lowe (5) and Samuel Mudie (3).  Aiden Zimmerman got the Meteors on the board at 8:11 of the second.  Sam Tonelli assisted on the goal for his 10th point of the series, extending his point streak to 10 games.  Dewar restored the Falcons’ 2-goal lead with his 5th goal of the playoffs with 2:48 left in the period.  Dewar scored his second goal Midway through the thirdto make it 4-1.

Falcons general manager Zack Schipper was extremely pleased with the performance of his entire team.  “Our guys came to play tonight. Thought all four lines and three defence pairs were great.  We got contributions from everyone in our lineup.  We have all the trust in the world in our goalie Hayden (Jeffery) and he was lights out tonight. Total team effort for 60 minutes.”

Meteors GM/head coach Nik Passero declined the opportunity to comment.

The Falcons were 1/2 with the man advantage and are 6/18 (33.3%) in the series.  For the first time in the series, the Meteors failed to score on the power play, going 0/2, and are 4/15 (26.7%) for the series.

The Falcons improved the home record in the playoffs to 7-1, while the Meteors fell to 5-3 on the road.

The Meteors’ Danny Adamo had his 8-game point streak snapped.

Game 6 will take place Saturday night at the Fort Erie Leisureplex.  Game time is 7:00pm.  Game 7, if necessary, is scheduled for Tuesday at 7:00pm in St. Catharines.

The Western Conference Championship Series also resumed on Friday as #1 St. Marys Lincolns avoided elimination with a 6-1 win over the visiting #2 Chatham Maroons, who now lead the series 3-2.  Click here for a full recap.
